About Southwest Outfitters
Southwest Kayaks first served the Lake Havasu area with sales and rentals of Hobie kayaks in 2010. As we slowly added a broader range of outdoor gear, we found Southwest Outfitters to be a better fit as a name for the water and trail sports activities we support. We have dozens of models and colors of Hobie and Riot kayaks to choose from for purchase or rent, and we sell new and used premium backpacking and camping gear. We carry more than 70 outdoor and travel gear items you can rent from 3 days to several months.
Our heritage is kayaks and no other make kayak can measure up to what Hobie offers. They feature advanced engineering, superior ergonomics and the unsurpassed Hobie warranty, plus they are made in the USA. The unique and patented Mirage Drive pedal system is what sold us on Hobies. Call or come in for a free demo or rental and you’ll be sold as well.
Southwest Outfitters is owned by an Arizona-based company in business since 1959. Together with its sister retailer in Tempe – LowerGear Outdoors – we’ve served many tens of thousands of rental and purchase customers, so we should be able to take care of you as well!

The World Is A Water Park, And Since 1950 We’ve Made The Best Rides.
We’ve surfed. We’ve sailed. And to each sport, we’ve brought flat-out, live-fast, have-fun, adventure.
All of which is precisely what you get with each of our models of Hobie Kayaks. Of course, we’ve also brought something brilliantly new to the sport of kayaking: Pedals.
Each of our Hobie Mirage® models has our patented MirageDrive® pedaling system. Which will take you further, faster, with a huge emphasis on fun. And that’s why we’re the best place to rent a kayak in Lake Havasu – no one else has Hobie!
Here’s how the MirageDrive actually works: you pedal by stepping alternately left and right, not unlike an exercise stepper, to drive two underwater flippers. They work much like a penguin’s fins to propel the Hobie Mirage with surprising speed and ease. All of which lets you go into kayaking. Feet first.
Leave it to Hobie to make kayaks that fly. Each Hobie Kayak is a seamless, roto-molded, polyethylene torpedo. Sturdy. Stable. And indeed, swift. The result? boats that effortlessly, gracefully, glide.
It’s fast, it’s sleek, it reduces wetness. All our kayaks have a closed-deck design with self-draining scuppers and seats to keep you dry.
But wait, there’s more. Not only are Hobie Kayaks easy to paddle, they’re easy to pull. With sure-grip handles both fore and aft. For those rare moments when you’re not paddling, most models offer on-deck paddle storage. Our molded-in cup holders bring beverage service to the main cabin.
